A dynamic programming solution method is presented for the stochastic truckload routing problem with time windows (TRPTW). Forecasts generated through count data analysis are employed as we look beyond traditional out and back routing and build extended routes. Rather than returning directly to their domicile, vehicles will instead proceed on to pick-up and deliver subsequent loads. Vehicles remain on the road until (DOT) hours of service (HOS) restrictions are reached. The triplet formulation facilitates the use of optimization through penalty methods and dynamic programming.
